Shawn Mendes debuts his new single 'Nobody Knows' at the MTV VMAs
Times of discover News: At the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, Shawn Mendes wowed the audience with the poignant debut of his new single, 'Nobody Knows'. The track is a prelude to his upcoming self-titled album 'Shawn', which will be released on October 18.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, one of the high-energy acts of the night, the performance featured Mendes performing in a different setup with an acoustic guitar, electric guitar and drums as well as soulful vocals.
The introspective and emotionally charged song is said to reflect Mendes' recent personal experiences, particularly his breakup with Camila Cabello.
In one notable lyric, Mendes said: "When you've loved so much and souls have been touched, but still not enough, where does it go? Nobody knows." Mendes' new album, 'Shawn', is the much-anticipated follow-up to his 2020 record, 'Wonder'.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the album is a collaborative effort between eminent personalities like Scott Harris, Mike Sabath, Nate Mercero and Eddie Benjamin.
Also, Grammy-winning songwriter Amy Allen and producer Ethan Gruska helped with the songwriting process.
In an emotional Instagram post, Mendes revealed his journey leading up to the album's release.
"Music really can be medicine," he wrote.
Reflecting on personal growth, Mendes said, "Two years ago, I felt like I didn't know who I was at all. A year ago, I couldn't go into the studio without being nervous. So 12 Good to Be Here fits. "Now with the songs it feels like a gift," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Mendes also appreciated the support of close friends and family and said, "I honestly thank God for my friends and family. Life can be cruel, but when you have a small group of people that you trust deeply. "It makes it a lot better." The album's production led to speculation among fans, with many interpreting the song as a commentary on Mendes' former relationship with Cabello.
In his recent single, 'Why Why Why', Mendes explores themes of vulnerability and uncertainty, including a notable lyric about a pregnancy scare: "I thought I was going to be a parent / I felt so sad inside. Shaken, I'm still a...baby."
