Williams said, "He thought I was just an anonymous comedian and he could do this joke and no one would know." “The issue was that I had already done this particular joke twice on BET's ComicView. It did so well on BET's ComicView that they made it part of the commercial.

The actor-comedian further added, “This is not just a random joke, this is my best joke and this is my last joke and this is my closing joke. 1998, I'm kidding; Cedric arrives at the Comedy Store. He sees me in the audience; I eat backstage; He tells me what a great job I did and how much he liked the joke. Two years later, he's doing it as his last joke on The [Original] Kings of Comedy and he's doing it verbatim, he turned my car into a spaceship.'

Cedric previously claimed on the Club Shay Shay podcast in November 2022 that he thought it was "funny" that Williams was upset and denied that he had stolen one of the comedian's jokes. “I've seen this guy [Williams] 30 times. Like, Dog, if you were really that upset about it, like why didn't you say anything, it doesn't make any sense," Cedric said at the time. "It's some Internet bullshit, and that's all I can say, so, you know, when I replied to him, he didn't reply to me and I left it at that."

Williams claimed that Cedric, as well as Steve Harvey, had previously apologized to him, so he never brought it up during their conversations and gave him "a pass for a decade". But the comedians were disappointed when Cedric went on a podcast and publicly denied the allegations of joke theft.

“Why would you let me down like this? If you were going to lie, why would I give you a pass?” Williams said. He also said that Cedric's specials are "so bad they're not available on Netflix", although Cedric's Live from the Ville special is currently streaming on Netflix.

After the latest podcast clip was shared on social media, Cedric responded to Williams' claims in the Instagram comments section of Club Shay Shay.

He wrote, "Whatever the views of revisionist history, Kats, my career cannot be reduced to a joke that Katt Williams takes as his own." “I have seen more than 40 films, my particular films and brands say a lot to me. The PPL I'm wearing includes the 'Cat in the Hat'. at the Gibson Amphitheater.

Cedric continued, “And all that hard stuff! It's still weird being a big ass man. And none of this nonsense will be what you think. You do that and I've got it here."

Elsewhere in the podcast episode, Williams claimed that Cedric, Harvey and Ricky Smiley worked in a group to oust him and others from the industry. He said that they are "not three random people," they are "connected to each other, and they share secrets."
