The BBC on Tuesday announced the cast list for its upcoming romantic comedy-drama series Film Club, including Suranne Jones (Doctor Foster, Gentleman Jack, Vigil) and Nabhaan Rizwan (Kaos, In Camera, 1917).
The scripted debut from actors Amy Lou Wood (Daddy Issues, Sex Education, White Lotus Season 3) and Ralph Davis (Dragon House Season 2, Othello) has been praised by Gaumont as "hugely funny and heartwarming," streaming on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three. It is described as a "pounding" six-part series. Fremantle is handling global sales.
"Film Club Week 198. Evie hasn't left the house for six months since her 'wobble,' and Film Club is where she's running from," the synopsis reads. "A weekly chance to create a wonderland, decorate the garage with everything we need for the movie, and spend a few uninterrupted hours with Noah - her best friend and one of the few friends who still shows up. But tonight, ten things are different. Noah gets a big message that means everything is about to end.

Co-creator Davis plays Film Club's newest member Dominique.
Film Club is a funny and emotional show about love and family, whether we should listen to our hearts or minds, and falling in love with a friend. "I'm thrilled that our beloved TV series Film Club, a project that Ralph and I have been writing about for the past decade, starts shooting this week," Wood said.

The series has begun shooting in Manchester and will air in the UK next year. It will be shown on the BBC in Germany and later on ZDFnio in Germany. Stella Merz (Gentleman Jack, Renegade Nell) has stepped in as producer of the six-episode 30-minute series, and Katherine Morshead (Daddy Issues, The Full Monty) will direct. Executive producers are Wood, Alison Jackson and Jamie Jackson for Gaumont and Nawafal Faizullah for the BBC.
