Rufus Wainwright took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his displeasure over the use of his song at Donald Trump's rally in Pennsylvania. According to him, Trump has crossed the "height of blasphemy".

Wainwright said in his post "I felt embarrassed, but the goodness inside me hopes that by listening and actually hearing the lyrics of Cohen's masterpiece, Donald Trump might experience a sense of remorse for his actions. I'm not holding my breath."

Wainwright also highlighted the importance of the song to him and explained that his cover furthers Leonard Cohen's message, which is based on peace, love, and acceptance of the truth.

Wainwright not only criticized Trump, but also made it clear in his post that he is a supporter of Kamala Harris. He said, "I'm all for Kamala!"
