Red Bull Jukebox Nashville October 2 with Brothers Osborne + 6 Acts
Times of discover News: While a certain sameness has developed when it comes to live events, Red Bull has come up with a fun new twist. Yes, the same Red Bull that's always doing amazing feats with airplanes or boats. This time, Red Bull Jukebox is giving fans control over which songs it will play at the concert on October 2 at the Ascend Amphitheatre in Nashville.
How does it work? Well, surprisingly like a jukebox. The songs performed by the artists at the show will be chosen by fans. There's a link for quick voting, then at the event itself viewers will be able to cast votes in large numbers, and the winning songs will be performed by the artists. This reverses the usual process of fans being at the mercy of artist-created playlists. In this case, all the artists are committed to playing the choices chosen by the fans. This may only bring hit performances, but still no one enjoys the concert more than they enjoy their favorite songs.
Interestingly, each of the seven artists committed to only playing songs directed by the audience. So, we have control over who performs the act, from those who pay to hear it. It's a funny game, because artists have to prepare for almost everything. You never know when voting will increase for an obscure song off the artist list.

All artists will be accompanied by house band Red Bull Jukebox. The band was assembled by guitarist and producer Derek Wells. They supported the seven announced artists and hinted that there would be surprise guests during the show. When the show takes unexpected turns, like unexpected artists, it always excites the audience. Tickets are still available for the Red Bull Jukebox event. Above is a link to get tickets for readers who want to enjoy it, are ready to vote, and are curious to know which songs the musicians will play.
The keynote performance was by Brother Osborne. I spoke with co-founder John Osborne about their music and the challenge of an audience-driven performance. Interviewing Osborne was fun. He is knowledgeable and kind, with a great sense of humor. He explained why he will enjoy preparing on stage for whatever the audience decides for their playlist. Osborne told me, "Red Bull put on a show that kept the audience engaged all night. Everyone in the audience got a chance to vote for which song they wanted to hear, and we trusted them. What do you want us to enjoy?" The only "rule" is that the voting must be on one of the artist's songs. There are no exceptions. Osborne said, "It should be fun, it should be spontaneous. It should be a little chaotic because that's what makes it special."
The idea of bringing seven artists and the other artists involved is already the seed for a fun show. Putting control of the show in the hands of the fans is a new thrill. Bragging rights for the fans mark the first time Red Bull has hosted this event in North America. We're not just voting for politicians this year. We're putting the entire concert soundtrack in the hands of the people in Nashville. The results could be surprising when the voting happens. The results of the Red Bull Jukebox survey will be fascinating.
My belief about Red Bull events is that they always strive to enhance the unique energy and vibe of the events they host. Their Red Bull Jukebox played fast. Whatever happens there will determine what Red Bull does next. Red Bull and the musicians in attendance are handing over full control of the music to the audience. Let's see how they play it. And, for the people in the Nashville area, don't miss the chance to decide how good this show will be.
