Labina Mitevska receives Eurimages International Co-Production Award
Times of discover News: Macedonian producer and actress Labina Mitevska has been selected as the recipient of this year’s Eurimages International Co-Production Award, which honours producers for their contribution to promoting international film collaboration. Mitevska, the founder of Sisters & Brother Mitevski Productions in Skopje, North Macedonia, will receive the award from European film subsidy group Eurimages and the European Film Academy.
Mitevska made her acting debut in Milco Manevski’s 1994 Venice Film Festival Golden Lion winner Before the Rain, which was also nominated for an Oscar. Together with siblings Teona and Vuk, they founded their own production company, Sisters & Brother Mitevski Productions, in 2001. Labina produced, Teona directed and Vuk served as the company’s animator and set designer.
The company’s filmography includes the first short Veta (2001), which received Special Jury Recognition at the Berlin International Film Festival. Her first feature film, How I Killed a Saint (2004), premiered in Rotterdam. Subsequent productions include I'm from Titov Veles (2007), The Woman Who Brushed Her Tears (2012) and God Exists, Her Name is Petrunya (2019), which won the European Parliament's Lux Audience Prize.
Recent films include The Happiest Man in the World (2022) and 21 Days Until the End of the World (2023). Mitevska is currently producing Skateboarding Is Not for Girls and Mother, starring Noomi Rapace.
As a producer, Mitevska worked on nine films in collaboration with Eurimages, including works by directors Cristi Puiu (Sierranveda), Nuri Bilge Ceylan (The Wild Pear Tree) and Pjer Zalika (May Labor Day). Mitevska will accept the honor at the European Film Awards ceremony on Dec. 7 in Lucerne, Switzerland.
