'Emilia Perez' and Hans Zimmer are the top recipients of the 2024 Hollywood Music in Media Awards
Times of discover News: Netflix's Emilia Perez and composer Hans Zimmer won three awards at the 15th Annual Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMM) held at The Avalon in Hollywood, CA on Wednesday (November 20). The HMMA honors composers, songwriters and music supervisors for their contributions to film, TV, video games and other music during the year.
Emilia Perez won the award for Best Film, Biopic or Music and Lyrics - On-Screen Performance (Film) for Zoe Saldana who plays "El Mal." French filmmaker and songwriter Clément Ducol and Camille also worked on the feature film's score.
Zimmer has earned three HMMAs, the most awards given to an individual this year. He won the award for Score - Science-Fiction/Fantasy Film for Dune: Part Two; composing the score for the TV documentary series Planet Earth III starring Jacob Shea and Sarah Barron; and for Song - "Love Will Survive" from The Tattooist of Auschwitz TV show/limited series, written by Kara Talvey, Walter Afanasieff and Charlie Midnight. Barbra Streisand plays the music.
Universal Pictures' animated film, The Wild Robot and legendary singer Bernie Taupin won two awards each. The Wild Robot received top accolades in two categories for animated films, Chris Bowers' score and the original song "Kiss the Sky" composed by Maren Morris, written with Ali Tamposi, Michael Pollack, DeLacy, Jordan Johnson-Tart., and Stephen Johnson.
Taupin received the HMMA Outstanding Career Achievement Award. In addition, he shared the Song-Film Documentary award for "Never Too Late" from the Disney+ documentary Elton John: Never Too Late. John and Brandi Carlile both wrote and performed the songs, and collaborated with other writers Taupin and Andrew Watt.
Diane Warren won HMMA Song of the Year - Featured Writer for H.E.R.'s "The Journey" by The Six Triple Eight. He was giving a presentation. If the song is nominated for an Oscar, it would be Warren's 16th Best Original Song nomination, and her eighth consecutive year with a nomination.
Miley Cyrus, Lykke Li and Andrew Wyatt won the Song - Independent Film award for "Beautiful That's the Way from the Last Showgirl." Cyrus also produced the track.
The HMMA Awards run about a month before the Oscars announce their shortlist of 15 original songs and 20 original scores on Dec. 17. Oscar nominations will be announced on Jan. 17. The annual HMMA nominations and awards are our first real glimpse at how other awards shows might compete for music awards in the coming weeks.
