Diljit Dosanjh's music and the challenge of alcohol ban
Times of discover News: Bollywood actress Ananya Panday's recent Instagram story has grabbed attention for all the wrong reasons. The actress recently shared an old picture with her grandmother on Instagram's stories section and wished her a happy birthday. In the old picture, her grandmother is seen holding a glass of beer and feeding milk to baby Ananya from a bottle.
While the picture has been criticised by many before, it has now angered fans of Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh, who recently played in Ahmedabad. Diljit's fans have reacted negatively to the picture on social media and aggregator websites, saying that actors like Diljit carry the burden of righteousness, as everything goes on as usual in Bollywood.
Earlier, the Telangana government had issued a notice to Diljit over songs with references to alcohol, following which Diljit played songs with changed lyrics. However, the Punjabi superstar took a bold step by hitting out at the Telangana government and challenged all state governments across the country to turn the tables and suggest a ban on alcohol consumption. Diljit had said in one of his shows that people in Bollywood depicted and glorified the use of alcohol in their films and songs, but no authorities paid any attention to them.
The Punjabi superstar said that when it came to presenting his songs with references to alcohol, which is very rare in his illustrious discography, the authorities encouraged him. He said that if drinking alcohol is banned across India, he will not always sing songs about alcohol. He said that he has also released two devotional songs recently and they have very few songs related to alcohol as he himself does not drink. A national ban on alcohol will prove to be detrimental to the economy as licensed alcohol accounts for a large share of the GDP and tax revenue of states. Recently, Diljit's concerts have gained a lot of attention nationally due to his performances and content.
