Chiefs will target 5 WRs after Hollywood Brown's injury
Times of discover News: After the shocking news that Hollywood Brown will miss the entire season after being placed on the injured reserve list, the Chiefs could suddenly be in the wide receiver market again.
There is some optimism that he could return in the second half of the season, but Kansas City has to act like Brown won't. The aggression we saw in the Week 1 win over the Baltimore Ravens will continue, so now is the time to consider reinforcements.
A second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Elijah Moore entered the league with immense potential but hasn't reached his peak. Despite his problems at receiver he remains buried on the Browns depth chart, possibly by Brett Veach who could have acquired him at a minimal cost.
Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson are the top receivers moving forward, though Travis Kelce clearly plays a big role in the passing game as well. However, the Chiefs need to target these players to strengthen their position.
Moore's drop rate has been less than 5% every year of his career. 2023 was his most productive season, catching 59 passes for 640 yards and two TDs. Most of that production came with Flacco under center, proving Moore can be a weapon if he has moderately competent QB play.
He caught only three of six targets in Week 1, all for just nine yards, though Cleveland's passing issues can be attributed to Deshaun Watson's extreme struggles. Moore is a talented splitter with good hands and an impressive highlight reel. Maybe he needs a change of scenery to become a valuable player in the NFL.
He won't do that in Cleveland and doesn't seem to get any meaningful opportunities going forward. If Veach can get Moore in a conditional pick swap or for a weaker player, it's at least worth the trade.
