'Candyman' and 'Final Destination' actor Tony Todd dies at 69
Tony Todd, the actor who starred in the Candyman and Final Destination horror franchises, has died. He was 69. He died at his home in Marina del Rey on Wednesday after a long illness, his wife Fatima told The Hollywood Reporter.

New Line Cinema, which produces the Final Destination franchise, wrote on Instagram, "The industry has lost a legend. We have lost a dear friend. Rest in peace, Tony — your Final Destination family."

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 4, 1954. Born in Washington, D.C., Todd studied for two years at the University of Connecticut before receiving a scholarship to the Eugene O'Neill National Theater Institute. His time there helped lay the foundation for his later stints, then at the Hartman Conservatory in Stamford, Connecticut, and the Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island.

Todd made his film debut in 1986's Sleepwalk and went on to have an acting career with more than 200 television and film credits. His highlight was 1992's Candyman, in which he played a hook-wielding ghost. He later returned in 1995's Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh and also released a remake in 2021. Todd also played William Bludworth in 2000's Final Destination, 2003's Final Destination 2 and 2011's Final Destination 5.

"Tony was an amazing actor who was truly a chameleon; he prepared extremely carefully for every role," said Rael Dowell, director of film studies at Hampton University, who directed him in 2012's Changing the Game. "This is a truly unique individual." In addition to his wife, Fatima, Todd has two children, Alex and Ariana.

His other acting credits include Night of the Living Dead in 1990, The Rock in 1996, The Crow in 1994, The Man from Earth in 2006, and Hatchet II in The Flash in 2010, Frankenstein in 2015, Hell Fest in 2018, Requiem, 2020's Hells, and 2024's The Bunker. He also played Kurn in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and the Alpha Hirogen in Star Trek: Voyager. His IMDb profile also lists more than nine titles currently in post-production.
