The design of the Tesla Cybercab includes butterfly doors and a two-seater setup without steering, which is planned to be brought into mass production by 2026. At the same time, Tesla's Optimus robot is also said to be similar to the "NS-5" model of I, Robot.

The film I, Robot is set in the year 2035, in which the protagonist is skeptical about the robots created to protect humanity. In this film, Will Smith plays a Chicago police detective, who questions the intentions of these robots. Director Alex Proyas believes that Tesla's robot and Cybercab are similar to the design of his film.

Elon Musk has often praised the books of science fiction writer Isaac Asimov and cited them as inspirational for the foundation of SpaceX. Musk named the inaugural launch of his robot taxi "We, Robot", influenced by Asimov's I, Robot series.
